Identity

As we know to keep the tradition and faith of a particular church in a foreign land is not an easy task. However the situation in England is different, though we are foreigners, we are given all the opportunities of the people of the land, and in response we are working hard for the well being of the country. Thus we are becoming part of the nation. While contributing to the nation we are also helping ourselves to grow. This growth can be economical or spiritual. The real growth comes when both economical and spiritual growths are well balanced and thus one is able to make good progress to the country and the church. Those who can grow in spirituality are able to recognise the values. Those who are able to recognise the values can appreciate the fundamental principles which govern our life and society.

As Syro-Malabar Catholics, it is necessary for us to recognise the fundamental principles of our life. If we can recognise the fundamental principles, we will take up the initiative to practice our faith. In this venture we may face obstacles from our own people or from other non-Christians. This is the real test of our faith. One gets tempted to do away with our Liturgy, faith and patrimony. Trying to identify with other people from various places. Trying to get rid off our church. Therefore like martyrs and saints we must try our best to overcome this ‘real test.’

While keeping our faith, let us be part of the society, do our best to improve the good value system around us. So that we can live in peace.
